Texas SR-22 Questions and Answers
What is an SR-22?
This is a form that is provided to the Department of Motor Vehicles that
guarantees you have auto insurance at the state minimum or higher; and that
the insurance company will notify the DMV should the insurance lapse.
Where do I get one?
This is available from agents that are licensed by the state to sell this type
of policy. (Like us for example!)
Does SR-22 insurance cost a lot more?
Not necessarily. However information on your driving record can affect your
rate.
Can a regular proof of insurance be used for the SR-22 requirement?
No, the DMV will not accept that.
How long will I need to file a SR-22?
Two years from the date you are required to file in most cases.
How much insurance do I need to have?
You would need to get liability coverage for $25,000 if you injure someone,
$50,000 for more that one person hurt in a single accident, and $25,000 for
property damage. You can get more than this if you wish. You can also add
coverage for your car and other coverage’s like uninsured motorist, personal
injury protection, rental car, and road service.
If I have multiple vehicles do I need more than one SR-22?
No, you only need to have this for one vehicle, or you can get a non-owner
SR22.
What is a non-owner SR-22?
That is how you would get an SR-22 if you don’t own a vehicle. It is also
possible to get this for the purpose of restoring your license. You may have
this in combination with another auto policy.
Do you have SR-22’s for motorcycles?

How long does it take to get my SR-22?
In most cases we can do this immediately.
Do you give me the certificate or send it to the state?
We normally do both.
Will the SR-22 restore my suspended driver’s license?
